This place always closes before their actual close time! Such a disappointment!! 20 mins before closing and their doors are locked.

Real rude employees. No wonder when I pulled up the parking lot was empty and cars trying to find parking for Crest Cafe across the street.

Love this place. They're always so quick with getting the delish bagels out to you. I always order a warm egg style sandwich of some sort. Glen who's been here since I've been coming (1998) is just the cherry on-top! Yummy food mixed with his awesome customer service skills is a recipe for amazingness!!!

I'm increasing my stars because Einstein has become my go-to bagel joint, even though there are some problems. Their nova bagel prices have gone up, and the wi-fi is not only unreliable but the staff really doesn't care if it's down, and there is only one plug so if that seat is occupied, you're SOL. They recently remodeled the bathroom (it was about time....). Some staff are friendly, some are eh, but I've never experienced rudeness. The bagels are tasty and there's usually some kind of special going on. I wish coupons came out more often! I usually order an egg sandwich or the aforementioned nova, or the dozen with 2 cream cheese. They will slice all of them for you!

Their bagels are great but confused about their hours. Their hours are listed until 4pm on this site but if you call them they say 5:00pm. I've been there at 4:45pm to get some bagels only to find the lights off and the doors locked. Which is it Einstein's?

I have loved the bagels at Einstein's ever since I lived in Miami. Now that I am in San Diego, I stop by the Hillcrest location every Friday to pick up bagels for my office, and it's always such a pleasant experience. The location is in a little shopping strip on Robinson that has onsite parking (it can be a little crowded in the a.m., but there is always parking...bonus). After a couple of visits, they started to know me and have the boxes ready when I get in. There is also a stellar coffee bar and I get to take care of my caffeine fix at the same time. I also usually pick up one of those deliciouso cinnamon strudels which are slap yo mama delish! WTF do they do to make something so tasty????? Also when you walk in, you really get a "neighborhood vibe", which as a loyal Hillcrestian (I freaking love my neighborhood), is something I really really enjoy! As for the bagels themselves, the are large and tasty and come in a gazillion tasty flavors. Love this place and will be back next Friday.

They can never open on time. I'm sitting in the parking lot right now. Going on 10 minutes late.

THE neighborhood bagel store, great staff, love the pumpernickel and sesame bagels, one of the few bagel places that understand the word "toast". Coffee is outstanding...Starbucks eat your heart out. Michou R

The food, the staff, the location: all top shelf! My favorite place for breakfast in the 619! The staff are all amazing people.

Got there just before opening. First guy I met was wonderful. The other guy, no so much. Overall, the service was good. My order was filled pretty quickly. The bagels are delicious! I would definitely recommend this location to others and will return for more yummy bagels!

My love of this place is pretty basic. I come here because I am obsessed with the jalapeno salsa cream cheese. It's a bright orange color, which I would guess comes from blending the cream cheese with hot sauce. It's my go-to for a hangover breakfast! I get a toasted onion bagel with jalapeno cream cheese and sliced tomato! The service is hit or miss... Sometimes the food is instantly ready other times it takes more than five minutes for no apparent reason. The bagel/cheese combo with a soda or coffee is like under $4! Quite a deal if you ask me!

They couldn't figure out how to make a chi latte , waited for 10 min. Ended up having to ask for my money back . Don't hire ppl how can't make what's on the menu.

I stopped by here on my way to the San Diego to pick a quick breakfast. When I arrived, they were moderately busy. I ordered the spinach, mushrooms, swiss, with egg bagel sandwich on a whole wheat bagel for $4.80 plus tax. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/T015… ) The sandwich was perfect for a quick easy breakfast. Everything on it was cooked well and tasted good but the egg was a little bland. The wheat bagel warm and was very moist. They put a good amount of ingredients on the sandwich, especially spinach. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/T015… ) The breakfast was good and the service was quick, so this place gets and A-Okay.

I randomly stop in to this location and a few others when I want to surpirse my co-workers with bagels. Bagels are always good, service is fine, nothing over the top but not bad either. I love the coffee and the fresh squeezed orange juice hit the spot this morning.

  • Denise P.

Love the bagels but not the service. The tall red head fellow seems really hassled by us customers.

  • Janice P.

To be honest, I went to Einstein after my first 2 breakfast choices had lines out the door. The parking lot is super small, don't bring your hummer here. The people were nice. It wasn't too crowded. The food was good. The coffee was great!

  • Marcy D.

The workers are unfriendly I stopped by here to pick up some bagels and from the guy whose taking the order all the way up to the cashier all I got was unpleasant attitude. I was so happy to pick up a bagel and came out pissed off.

The Bagels Are Amazing However The Staff Is Not Very Friendly (At all!) I only go there for bagels but I hate dealing with these people. I wish someone retrained them

Bad customer service. First guy kept looking behind him every other second as I tried to place my order. The responses I got were "uh huh, uh huh." I repeated my order 3 times to make sure it was correct (because the guy kept turning away and I wasn't sure if he was paying attention) and on the third time he finally looked at me, giving me this annoyed look. I then go to the cashier to pay. I get some snarky attitude for trying to use a coupon. I get home to find out they messed up my order!!

My wife and I stop in almost weekly right and have never left unhappy. The early morning staff is very helpful and has excellent customer service. They are very prompt in ensuring you are taken care of and have your food in a timely manner. On days where I have no idea what I am in the mood for, the staff has always been helpful in making excellent suggestions. Also, something about their Vanilla Hazelnut coffee makes it extraordinary.

  • Kevin V.

I recently moved down the street from this bagel shop, and so far, not impressed. The bagels seem rather cheap and airy, and the cream cheese just doesn't taste like others. The service is decent, and their coffee is good - but for good bagels, go to City Bagels.

    (2)
  • Kathy V.

Their house special garlic bagel is my absolute favorite. I always order it toasted with the plain cream cheese. With each bite of my warm bagel, you get just enough of the garlic and cream cheese. The cream cheese melts in your mouth like butter. YUM.

I love Einstein's. I stopped here to pick up a snack for my plane ride and got a toasted asiago cheese bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese. It was awesome. Hit the spot when I was on the plane, stuck in a row of 7 kids, one of whom was singing Taylor Swift every time one of her songs came on as part of a commercial. The bagel was still soft and warm, and oh so tasty! Service was fast and friendly at this location. I should come here more often for bagel treats. :)

This place makes up my really awful carb addiction. I LOVE bagels. It's kind of weird, but yeah, I do. And they have all the good flavors and really too good of coupons to not go. Get on their mailing list--you get buy 1, get 1, coupons if you do. They are good ones too: for breakfast and lunch sandwiches, which are between 5 and 7 bucks so you can save yourself almost ten bucks by using the coupon. It's good if you are going with a buddy or want to save the thing for later. Also, they recently started doing $1 coffee if you bring your own cup. It's kind of awesome since it's a bottomless cup and you can stay there and study all day for $1. And they actually have really good coffee--I was totally surprised. And they have mad delicious seasonal flavors. Try the Winter Blend or whatever it's called--it's sexual. By that, I mean it's stupidly delicious. There is only one outlet at this location, although they do have wi-fi. The outside area is cool--they have some chairs and tables if you are not needing the interwebs. When it's a sunny day in Hillcrest, the coffee and outdoor seating are a win for reading.

I always forget this place is here. Delicious breakfast sandwiches here and a big selection of schmear!! Usually seems to have good service.

  • Chanel W.

The customer service was beyond incredible! Valery, Xxtina, and especially Glen went above and beyond in all my experiences I've had at any restaurant and I've at at numerous 4 star restaurants in La Jolla and Las Vegas. I wasn't a big fan of Einstein bagels, I prefer panera but I'm now going to be faithful to my new favorite place in hilcrest, mostly because how I was treated! I had to try everything pumpkin and they suggested I try a different drink than I paid for and didn't charge me extra!!! I am obsessed with their amazing customer service and will go there based on that alone!

Worst service and attitude (matched only by the food) in San Diego. Avoid.

  • Rogelio S.

Usually only come for the breakfast bagels, place can be busy. The waiting is never too long and everyone is friendly. Their breakfast bagels are fairly price ($3-$5) with plenty of options. They have thin bagels for calorie counting foes. I love the fact they have turkey sausage and eggs white only option. Orange juice is a little too sweet, coffee is strong.

    (4)
  • Marta A.

This is the only Einstein I visit in all of San Diego, I was actually here yesterday morning. I am surprised to read all the negative comments but let me say that the customer service meets my standards and so do their bagels. I was there yesterday around 8am and walked out of there in 3 minutes, I was not only impressed but greeted immediately at the door and helped with a smile. I only wish I was good with names, but their morning staff is outstanding. They are a little demanding but they are good at what they do. If you want a good breakfast get a Breakfast Bacon and Cheese and an OJ :))

I am not sure how you can mess up two bagels with cream cheese but I was here last week on a Wednesday with a friend and we not only had to wait 20 minutes to finally get our order, but we also went to the counter twice before that to ask what the hold up was and no one could figure out what happened! We kept seeing all these people after us getting their food...it was very frustrating. There is a location in SD by my house that I never have any problems with....Im not sure what was going on over here.

So, this morning, my friends and I went to eat at Einstein bagels. I ordered the Tuscan tasty turkey sandwich. I just wanted the sandwich, but they told me I had to get it as a combo. I had to choose between potato salad or chips. I told them I want the potato salad. Anywho, I was waiting around for my order. They called my name and got the bagel, and asked where the potato salad was. The same guy who took my order told me they are out of it, and to go grab a bag of chips. I was annoyed because 5 minutes earlier, he told me they had potato salad. We took the food home and started to eat. More bullshit ensued when I unwrapped my bagel. My turkey bagel had no turkey in it. How could a place be so incompetent? My advice is to always check your order before you walk out of the place to make sure you got what you ordered. These people are idiots and I'm never eating T this einsteins bagels ever again.

Unreal bagels. Had the six cheese with salmon schmear and it was the most decadent breakfast ever. Wouldn't usually want the calorie load of a bagel but this was sooo worth it!!

  • N D.

The bagels are what you expect. What makes me come back to Einstein Bros instead of other, more "authentic" places is the wide variety of "shmear" (creme cheese) and last but not least, all the friendly faces. Jonathan, Polo and he other guys ALWAYS seem to have a good day, which makes the visit a nice experience. My favourite: The Blue Berry Bagel with Honey Almond Shmear.

I love bagels. Doesn't matter where they come from, I love them all. I don't love the people who work here. In fact I like them so little that I won't come back here to get bagels. Decided to stop here 1 morning and grab breakfast, plain bagel with plain cream cheese. Service was CRAZY. Nobody looked at me. Seriously. Not the girl who took my order, not the guy who was at the register. They are busy, busy, busy. You want warm and fuzzy service? Don't come here, I got snapped at by employees and other customers. Stopped in today to get bagels for the office. Girl who took my order, again didn't look at me. She was busy yelling over her shoulder at another employee. Guy who was at the register looked at me, kind of sort of smiled at me, told me the cost, I handed over my card, he swiped it, turned and yelled at the same employee as the girl had moments before, then wandered off toward the kitchen area. With my card still in his hand. It took me 5 minutes to get his attention so I could get my card back, then he was rude about it. If you drive anything bigger than say, a Jetta, don't park in the lot. I had to wait almost 15 minutes for the car behind me to come back and move so I could back my SUV out, and even then it was a tight, tight fit.

I love to go in early for my everything bagel, toasted with the Nova Lox. Its a neighboorhood staple. I have never had to wait too long, the service is pretty good and fast and everyone is friendly. There is one employee who always flirts with me, and maybe that's why i gave this place a great review, i mean who doesn't like a little flattery!

  • Julia B.

I come here a few times a month to pick up a bagel bucket to bring to customers. I can get in and out of here in about 5 minutes, which is great. They have a really nice guy who works the cash register in the morning, and he goes above and beyond. He always has something nice to say or some friendly chit chat. They also have a TON of different bagel varieties.

  • Duncan Y.

I came in this afternoon for a quick lunch and I was helped by a newbie. My order came out wrong, but when I brought it to someone's attention, they promptly offered to remake my order the way I wanted and to keep the food that I had already received. That's good customer service! Even if I had to wait a couple extra minutes. Thankfully, I was in no hurry.

Within the Einstein chain, this is their best store in San Diego. Very friendly staff that goes out of their way to help customers. If you go the same time each morning, you will start to make friends among the regulars. Sarah and Will, the managers, maintain a good relationship with the staff that keeps them motivated with their work, and is reflected in sensitive and fun interaction with customers. For the week preceding July 4th, they have outfitted the store with decorations made by the employees, on their own time. How often do you see fast-food employees doing that? It shows that this is an unusual store.

  • Maria B.

Why does this particular Einstein's deserve 5 stars? Because they have the best people working there. Everyone is always nice. The service is friendly and prompt. Will the manager is great. I come in all the time and he knows what I order. I always wanted to be a "regular" and he definitely makes me feel like I am one. Glen is also great. He is so nice. Having nice people around in the morning time just makes the whole day better. As far as the bagels go I think that Einstein Brothers has some of the best chain bagels. I love the good grains bagel. I also really love their cream cheeses. Smoked salmon is yummy as are the sun dried tomato and the honey almond. The only thing that I would improve is the consistency of the cream cheese amounts. Sometimes I get a lot of cream cheese (which is how I like it) but sometimes there is not much cream cheese at all. I want to taste the cream cheese if I am paying for it. hehehe. I am also very OCD about the cream cheese spreading so I always grab a plastic knife to spread out the cream cheese to my liking. I also really like that there are always some kind of promotional stuff going on through Facebook and the mail ads. So there is always a chance to save. If you are looking for good bagels with great service this is the place to go.

And the moral of the story is, if you just go to use the restroom go to Starbucks! The restroom here is an ambisextrous hole, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned since 2002. I mean, beyond disgusting like one step above an outhouse. But I did order food b/c I thought it would be the right thing to do...I can make a better lox and bagel sandwich at home, so why would I go here? Nothing extraordinary about the everything bagel, so maybe it's time to broaden my horizons. I thought the service was OK, but overall The Order Here and Pay Here signs are very easy to overlook (check out the ones at the Mission Valley EB, clearly an afterthought). I shall likely never darken this door again.

I really like Einstein's and we were having a bagel brunch before the parade so they were first on my list. I went in on Monday and ordered it to be picked up on Saturday morning at 6:15am. I ordered 5 dozen mixed bagels and lots of coffee. It was ready and waiting! That was was really great. What wasn't so great was their idea of mixed bagels. Plain, whole wheat, sesame and raisin and a few cheese. Not one onion, garlic, poppy or anything. We ere very disappointed. Make sure if u are getting an assortment you be specific. The bagels were good but garlic or onions would have been better.

Solid review. I was hungover and couldn't do coffee ( you know that stage of hungover...food good. Coffee not. So I went here with the mindset of free wifi and bagels. Everyone here is so nice and friendly. They were quick and efficient. Thanks Einstein for improving my hangover.

Just got a bagel here, the parking wasn't as bad as i thought it would be... The staff was nice (the greeter and register guy)...BUT they did a SUPER weak job on my schmear. I would have told the chick ....but i'm she didn't seem the friendliest, and i didn't feel like arguing....already had a bad day with coffee bean charging me extra when they didn't even do my drink right today :(

  • Todd A. D.

The quality's pretty good but they always get my order wrong. Every single time, not exaggerating! I finally stopped coming here.

    (2)
  • Derek T.

This place only warranted two stars today because I finally received barely adequate service. Every single time I've come here over 11 years the staff have been, at best, completely deficient in any kind of greeting (welcome, smile, thank you, etc). Today at least I was greeted at the register. I had a coupon for $2 bagel/schmear/coffee. I ordered and then, this is perhaps unique to Einstein's chain or this store in particular, you get shuffled down to the opposite side of the counter where (the same employee) rings you up. She didn't apply the discount, and then when she did she informed me the bagel I chose cost extra (could've told me that when I ordered). She quickly moved back to the ordering station without giving me the coffee cup, so I had to find another employee to get this. This time the bagel was prepared in a reasonable period of time and was fresh and tasty. Coffee was very hot and reasonably good. If the staff are improving, and I won't bet a plug nickel at this point considering my past experiences, then they may get higher ratings from me going forward. The food and coffee are usually good, so if that's all you come for you may be a happy camper. Just don't expect much common courtesy.

  • Andy V.

I'm done with this place. They've messed up our orders or forgot to send us out with the correct order the last few times we've been there. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised since they seem more interested and socializing with fellow employees rather than pay attention to our order.

I'm not a morning person. So, a good cup of coffee is very important. The delicious smell of coffee is the first thing you smell when you walk in. I normally have the delicious thin everything bagel with cream cheese. After I tasted the yummy coffee, I was okay with the cashier's jovial, enthusiastic and cheerful manner.

I have been going to this location for about 8 or 9 years. I went to Einstein's on Sunday morning 9/22/13 to grab a quick bagel before I went about my morning. The woman took my order and input it into the computer. I went to the next register to pay and POLO rang me up and took my money. I saw my order come on the little screen in front and when he asked if I wanted a receipt I declined because I had been there a thousand times and never had any issues to where I needed one. So I sat and waited, and waited, and WAITED. 25 minutes go by and I went up to the front to inquire about my bagels and the short woman with blonde hair, who looked completely STONED, just gave me a puzzled look, checked the order screen from which they work, then said she would make it now. I had somewhere to be in 5 minutes so I said I wanted my money back instead because I no longer had time to wait for 2 bagels, which should only take about 2 min to begin with. I went to the cash register so they could refund me and WIL asked for my receipt to which I said i didn't have one. He asked POLO if he remembered charging me and he said "I don't know. I think so." At this point WIL was giving us attitude and he had to go into the back to print out documentation of my order before he could refund us. I finally got my money back but it was such an ordeal. These were some of the most SLOPPY employees I had ever seen. Between the petite blonde girl who looked stoned, WIL the assistant manager who was giving us attitude, and an entire team that somehow "Lost" my order, it is safe to say that I will be boycotting this location and most likely the Einstein's bagel corporation. This was the WORST bagel experience ever. I am going to take my business elsewhere. I will drive completely out of the way to go to Bruegger's Bagels from now on since they are superior in all aspects. Their bagels taste better, they don't squish them, and their customer service is so much more desirable.

Smells like somethings burning I thought after I ordered my Everything Bagel with Strawberry Shmear ( remember that (; ). They sure are busy. Some lady had to go up to the cashier and ask where her order was (I'm assuming she had been waiting for quite awhile). I like the fact they have a gigantor board of the menu on the side above the drinks. Parking was..or IS a pain in the butt. So aside from the smell of burnt toast. My name was called and I was on my way. As I removed the bagel from the little pouch they give, and separated the top and bottom I was in shock to see the skimpy amount of cream cheese on my everything bagel. Boo. Then and there I decided to stick to the Clairemont Einsteins. Other than my almost naked, creamcheeseless bagel, the workers were relatively nice.

I come to this place almost every Sunday after church with my grandma and brother! I really like the bagels and the sandwich i order! I order the "Create Your Own", I get it on an onion bagel with ham and provolone chesse with the works which is onions, lettuce, tomatto, mayo & mustard with the potato salad and a soda!! It doesn't fill me up but it hits the spot. WHy the four stars?? I gave it four stars because of the seating, there are very little tables and the people who sit at the tables usually TAKE FOREVER to get up and leave! But overall I really like Einstein Bros!!

So my relationship with Einsteins started back in November when they inexplicably began giving club members free sandwiches (no strings attached). I was low on cash and nothing beats free, so I abused the hell out of it while it lasted (not very long) but they did manage to make a lifelong customer out of me. I like this Einsteins. It's not OVERLY friendly, but I like that. They're all characters. I know what to expect. There's the nice gay guy and the mean gay manager, the friendly mexican guy and the mexican girl so stoic and glaring that she could melt a block of ice with her glare. The big steal at Einsteins is the coffee: if you bring in your own container it's only 99 cents and there's no tax. Their coffee is not amazing but it's solid, and the price is right. Their bagels are the same - - not great, but they always give you a motherloving f-ton of cream cheese so my bf and I order cream cheese on just one bagel then split it. The best part is sitting outside on the patio and watching every single car wreck their front end while trying to park in the lot. Good times.

I could live on honey whole wheat bagels, toasted with butter. I could eat those every day for years and years. I could happily order them from this Einstein's, as long as they don't run out (they tend to, if you go late enough in the morning.) I can't think of a better way to start the day! Their decaf coffee is fantastic. it's as good as Dunkin Donuts, and that's saying a lot for me. I love that we can get two bagels with schmear and two coffees for less than the price of our standard starbucks drink order. I love that they have doggie bagels - my canines are delighted with them every time. This location has terrible parking and usually a big crowd; it gets confusing in there, and my order has been snagged by mistake more than once. also, for some reason, there is ALWAYS a bite of my bagel that tastes like onion. i hate that bite. if i wanted an onion bagel, that is what i would have ordered. it's probably no one's fault, though. that's just the breaks when my honey whole wheat shares toaster space... Yea, this is a good place. I'm happy every time.

  • Kim L.

Brilliant, Einstein! New food ordering/pickup orientation that streamlines the process = +1 star. Parking still sucks, but that's not their fault. I wish there were options for the type of cheese to be put on the breakfast sandwich bagels tho... But they're definitely moving in the right direction! I'm much more likely to frequent the shop for my brekkie cravings now ^_^

  • Michael S.

We went to Einstein Bagels a few days, and a very bad experience. The lady at the counter was kind of rude. They messed up both my friends orders. They forgot the bacon on one and the onions on the other. Also the place is super expensive, since when is a bagel with cream cheese and an orange juice like $6.00. And there were flies all outside the establishment. I don't know if they could do anything about that, maybe some scented candles or something to make the flies go away. I would rather just go to Noah's bagel or make my own. Also the orange juice was stale and I think might have been left there for a while.

I went here yesterday before my hair appointment. This was because a) I had to pee and Eric was taking a shower in the one bathroom we have and b)I was running out of time and didn't really have the luxury of leisure time to navigate my way anywhere else. The parking situation is horrendous. Whoever designed it basically took the smallest plot of concrete available and crammed as many spots possible into it. Then I walked into the joint. I hate in retail and/or food places when I am not greeted - when I am the one to say something first. Well, the chick taking orders just gave me a blank stare. I said "Hi!" In response, I got a blank stare, as if she was possibly processing it and confused about what to do next. So I continued: "How are you?" And I got a barely mumbled, "Good, what can I get you." Okay then. So I move down to where I pay. I get a "Your name please?" Bonus points for being polite, but they get taken back away for not saying "Hello" or some variation thereof. When my egg and cheese bagel sandwhich was ready, my name was barked by one of the guys preparing the bagels, and a foil lump in a bag was thrown on the glass counter. I understand that they are trying to get people in and out as quickly as possible, but it doesn't take a significant amount of time to use simple pleasantries and greetings. Meanwhile, my egg and cheese sandwich was $4.09. RIDICULOUS. And I couldn't even finish it. The cheese was rubbery and had no flavor whatsoever, and the sandwhich kept sliding apart. The bathroom was clean enough, and since my main concern was peeing, I guess it all worked out. But yeah, all in all, I paid $4.09 to pee, have a crappy customer service experience, park in the worst lot ever (and trust me, there are a lot of bad ones here in SD), and eat 2/3 of a crappy sandwhich.

mmmm...their cinnamon sugar bagel toasted with light cream cheese...my favorite. Their bagels are fresh and chewy, not heavy at all. The boy gets egg, spinach, tomato and black forest ham on whole wheat, its a big breakfast. minus a star for the looong line on saturday mornings.

I love driving up Fifth Avenue in the late morning with the sunroof open on a perfect day. People are out and getting their brunch on, the breeze is perfect. It made me happy that I decided to pick up a couple of bagels for breakfast at home. Although the lot is tricky to navigate (GIANT 4 door trucks...go away), it is worth the bagel goodness. Frankly, there is nothing terribly special about these bagels, but as with most chains, they are consistent. I do like the variety of cream cheese options. Plus, the fresh squeezed O.J. is just that...fresh and totally pure orange. YUM! I had to wait a bit for everything bagels to come out of the oven (I mean, it was 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday, so the place was hopping all morning...I cannot blame them for running out), so if you NEED that bagel, you may need to wait. P.S. - the drive home on Fourth was cool too.

I love a good cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Recently a friend of mine who visiting from out of town decided she wanted a bagel. I said sounds good to me let''s hit up Einstein in Hillcrest. I decided on this spot because I used to come here at least twice a week about four years ago so I thought it would be the best to go, boy was I wrong. This place used to be great now it is so bad. First of all the service was absolutely horrible. I mean it couldn't have been worst. The staff got our order wrong twice. Finally we they did get it right my fruit and mold all over it. I don't mean a little speck but a good two inch piece of mold. I almost tossed my cookies when I saw it. I was done. I asked to speak to the manager and all he said was sorry. Now I don't ask for much but I think I deserved a little more than sorry. I promptly asked for my money back and left. Now I feel like an idiot because I took a good friend to place that has become so horribly bad. The one star is for the OJ. Their juice is awesome!!!

This Einstein Bros Bagel is located at Fourth and Robinson in Hillcrest. I have been there quite a few times before and after they remodeled. They serve only breakfast and lunch. When you walk in, they take your order on one side of a long counter and wirelessly transmit it to the other side where you are rung up. The interior is welcoming and clean. The service is above average, though on a busy weekend morning you may have to wait a little longer for your order. I enjoy the Italian chicken, spicy elmo and ham & swiss. At this moment they have a spicy bundle for the morning, but they almost every time forgot to give me the coffee. If you have a choice of sides, I don't know about you, but I did not like the potato salad. The orange juice can be a bit expensive at $2.69 for the smallest size, and parking is limited. They do have a parking lot attendant making sure only customers park in that lot. Last time I placed my order at Einstein's and attempted to walk to Starbucks half a block away before I was stopped by the attendant. After showing him the receipt he had to let me go. In general it's a good place to meet new people, or to have some quick and good food.

Cinnamon raisin w/ cream cheese double toasted. Add a large coffee and I'm ready to start my day. The staff is super friendly (even at 6am). Now they have an armed security guard in the store, but I guess they've been robbed a few times in the past several months (Not this location, but other stores in the chain here in SD). Like others have said, the parking is awful, but luckily most people are in and out so there is at least movement.

First off, the service is horrible. I attribute this to the management though - no wonder turnover is so high-that guy is useless. Second, i like my everything bagels with, well, everything. Not 1/3 of what it had when it was made. Also, cream cheese... try putting on a little more than half an ounce. And tomatos? Forget about fresh. You're lucky if they are red. Lastly, coffee. Ok-i admit it. I'm an ex barista/coffee snob. Their coffee doesn't suck. So, bonus points. Plus, its hot. For some reason i've found that many places just can't manage this simple task. My point? Its fine. I wouldn't (despite my oober enthusiastic review) stop coming here. But if a closer bagel shop opened up near me - i'd ditch this one like (insert generic cliche here). If you want good bagels, try somewher else. If you want bagels in general-this works.

This place is so close to my house it is the first place I hit! Although Starbucks is almost right next door, the coffee here is so much better! The bagels are by far the best of any other place; always soft and warm! The reason I deducted a star: I have to say that every once in a while they hire a total tool that has no clue how to follow directions. They also are often understaffed. One big problem is the workers will take their break at the exact second they can. Even if there is a HUGE line, which there usually is, they will stop what they are doing and walk away. Come On!!!!! Sometimes it takes 20 min just to get your bagel and coffee. Speaking of coffee, some of the tools they hire don't know when to check on the coffee so it is often out. There are a small few of competent workers who knows what they are doing and gets the job done. BRAVO to them!!!!! They are the people that keep me coming and when I see them I know things will be alright! I also hate it when people order special coffee drinks. This place is not skilled for this and don't have enough people to make it work, especially since these drinks are ordered so infrequently. So what happens is, one person sits there and makes the expresso drink while the line increases and no orders go through! Oh well, I still love their coffee and their bagels so I'll just deal with the long lines, the small minority of incompetent workers and the customers who order the drinks that take too long to make!

Never been till this morning and thought I would check it out I love good bagels.. Place is very non friendly.. It was like it was a bother to wait on us.. We Ordered at the Register got 4 bagels was 4 of and all got orange juice.. told to then move done to the other register to pick up .. when order arrived I asked for jelly for bagel and I was told it would be $.65 cents for jelly.. Really? ok so he took my money and handed me two small jelly packets the kind you get for free and any breakfast restaurant.. Told him I have never been anywhere that they charge for jelly.. His responce was that I must not get out much.. Wrong answer wrong attitude! Lots of other places to order and actually sending a letter to Einstein Corp.. Never seen them charge for Jelly ... Will not be back!

"Decent corporate bagel, great neighborhood vibe!" This place epitomizes what's great about Hillcrest. The place is always warm from the ovens (but never feels too hot). Staff is kooky and friendly, the clientele range from early-riser middle-aged cyclists to sunday-paper-fanatics to morning-after walk-of-shamers to dog afficionados (there's always at least one pooch parked outside and the place is extremely dog-friendly, with bottomless water doggie-dish outside and doggie bagel treats). Food: - Good bagels; sometimes if you go as late as I do, they run out of the popular flavors (everything and garlic, e.g.) - Decent pastries; although again, if you're a really late riser, by the time you get there, they can seem a bit dried out - Great coffee; free refills and a good variety of flavors

Though in the past service may have been spotty, the peeps at Einstein in Hillcrest have turned things around, especially after their facelift. The place is comfy, the people (though always busy) are friendly. My bagel is always fresh, I like the variety and the coffee is great and you get all you want. Good choices of bagels and schmears.

Only four blocks from my place, this is a great morning-after place. The bagel sandwiches are really good, and I'm a huge fan of the honey whole wheat bagel with honey butter. Loses some points though, simply because it's awfully crowded, can get a bit messy during the rushes, and I've had better bagels... just not in San Diego!

Anybody remember Baltimore Bagel? Not necessary to put candy disguised as cream cheese or other menu items on to enjoy the visit. Although not classic, Baltimore Bagel at least had the real MCCoy. An onion bagel should have onions on top not mixed into the dough. No bialys or other authentic varieties, just trying to please the masses with cutesy concoctions. Some nice employees and fairly decent coffee/ sandwiches, but not worth the visit for the bagels.

I shared an everything bagel from Einstein Bros. today and it was pretty good. Their reduced fat cream cheese tastes like the real deal but it was a bit on the pricey side for a bagel with cream cheese but when you are on the go its nice to have a good hearty bagel with a large dose of cream cheese to start your day.

Bagels good. Shmear good. Sandwiches good. Asiago Bagel is my favorite. Honey Butter is good. This is my favorite bagel spot especially since it was right across from where I lived. I have no complaints!

Can we say FROZEN BAGELS!!!! I have had so many bagels in my life, but after having tried these franchise bagels I had swore to my self never again. But when I moved to Carmel Valley, the only bagel shop I found in the beginning was this place and let me assure you that there bagels are even worse then the bagels there franchise serves in the east coast. After doing some research I found out that all of these franchises use pre-made frozen dough....I believe I even saw a "How its made" episode on this where they made 10K bagels an hour...how can you expect them to taste good? Anyways after a lot of running around I finally found 3 top notch bagel places in my area (listed closest to furthest) Boston Bagels, Top of the Bagels, and New York Bagels. These 3 places make there own dough and bake there own bagels..How can you beat that? Anyways whoever thinks these franchises are great, well you just haven't tried REAL bagels.

When in the area and needing a quick bite I typically find myself in a lengthy line at Starbucks, but today Einstein Bros caught my attention so in I went and I was not disappointed! When you walk in the first thing you'll notice is plenty of comfortable seating including a counter bar with electrical outlets to charge your electronics. Great place to write a Yelp review. ;P Rounding the corner you encounter a couple of friendly looking employees ready to take your order and offer a suggestion if need be. I decided on the Toasted Spinach Florentine w/ Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese. YASSS!! In addition to being f**king delicious, it was toasted to perfection; not too crunchy, but more than just a warm bagel. I officially have a new favorite bagel. It 100% blew Starbucks' bagels out of the water. Still lingering on the traces of my bagel-high, I inquired as to their catering for a gathering I'm having on Sunday for about 2 dozen people and they set me up with all my bagel needs on the spot along with a variety of flavored cream cheeses and a coffee carafe. Score! That saves me the hassle of an additional trip to the grocery store and all that preparation. The price was totally reasonable, too! After you place your order, they take your name and you meander a bit to the right to finish up payment. The cashier cheerily greets you by name. Nice touch, guys. :) By the time I finished checking out my bagel was ready for feasting. Their line system really keeps the flow moving in an efficient manner. I didn't try their coffee, because Starbucks owns a piece of my soul so long as they keep pumping out those sweet sweet raspberry mochas, but this is my new go-to for all my bagel needs despite being able to pick up a lesser bagel with my coffee across the street. WORTH the extra trip.

Let me start this review by admitting a few things: 1) I have never had a bagel from Einsteins. 2) I don't like bagels. 3) I LOVE the egg sandwiches at Einsteins bagels. (They are paninis, on various types of non-bagel bread). 4) More than I love their paninis, I am obsessed with their coffee..... it tastes amazing and is pretty much made of jet rocket fuel. Haha Whenver we stop here, my husband likes to get the nova lox bagel and he seems to enjoy it every time..... I opt for the egg, bacon, & spinach sandwich and am literally never disappointed when I eat it.... it is my favorite fast food sandwich! My only real complaint is that some of the people that work at this location aren't very friendly or professional.... As a result of that, one day your order will be perfect, the next it will be slopped together and thrown over the counter at you. Either way, take a chance & feed your face. Hahaha

I gotta have my lox and bagels on the weekend and this is my go to place. What I love about this location is the neighborhood feel. Sounds crazy since this is a chain but the employees here know their customers and are so happy and friendly (well, some of them). The ordering system is stupid but all Einstein locations seem to do the order at one register and then pay at the other system. I noticed when I come on the weekends there is a group of older folks that get together and do the newspaper crossword puzzle together. It's too cute. I like to come early to ensure I get parking. The lot can get crowded later on in the morning.

You love bagels? Then why are you still reading reviews about this place just get in your car and get over there! Great place to come and have breakfast, brunch and sometimes an early lunch. I been this the Hillcrest location a few times in the past, came in after having a doc appt. and it was still breakfast time so decided to stop in. They have a variety of different types of bagels that's range from "normal" to "gourmet" bagels. The price is fair just make sure u look at their menu for their different pricing on their different types of bagels. Along with their variety of bagels they also have a variety of shmears (cream cheese). I Ordered the nacho jalapeño gourmet bagel with sun-dried tomatoe shmear. It was to die for! I must say tho. I do agree with the rest of the yelper regarding staff. There are a few of them that are very nice and friendly but then there is one that just looks like he is very unhappy to work there and can't give u a smile nor a morning greeting. I can do a way better job at his job! Overall though still a good place to come and eat!

Every time I walk in here I am greeted with smiles. My orders are usually very picky but they get it right every single time. Today I got the six cheese bagel double toasted with cream cheese. It came out perfect. Not burnt and nice and hot. I also ordered a blended hazelnut moca (FYI they have the best coffee.) Of course the bagel came out before the drink so I sat down and started eating. Then the manager (I think) brought my drink to my table! Such a nice gesture. I love this Einstein's!
